Background
Rocklahoma is an annual festival held in Pryor, Oklahoma. It started in 2007 and featured a line-up consisting of 80's hair bands and some new blood that sounded similar to that genre. Many bands like Ratt, Poison, Twisted Sister, and Quiet Riot appeared and jammed out with a crowd of about 100,000 people from all 50 states and countries from all continents except for Antarctica. Sadly this was one of Quiet Riot's Kevin DuBrow's last performances because he was found dead in Las Vegas in late December. The festival started on July 12th and the opening band was Uro Steppe. The festival closed on July 15th with one of the biggest bands from the 1980s, Twisted Sister.
2008
Rocklahoma 2008 was promised, by the promoters, to be even bigger and better than 2007. This year many bands that broke up since the 80's are reuniting to play in this festival and possibly go on their own tour. Bands like Tora Tora, Trixter, Black n Blue are drawing out fans young and old. Already tickets have been sold in all 50 states and many countries in Europe.
So far 28 bands have been confirmed to appear on the main stage while dozens more will be playing on the side stages during the set changes. This year the festival will begin on July 10th with a special pre-party for those with VIP and 3-day tickets. The offical festival will begin on July 11th and open with XYZ and will end on July 13th with a band thats still TBA. I look forward to attending this festival and I will post some about it later.
